How soon should I contact a relocation company?

Key to a successful move is its planning. Whether international or domestic, an average of 6-8 weeks before intended relocation is recommended. This will allow to obtain and compare quotations and services, advise banks, cancel utilities etc.

How much booking notice should I give?

Most reputable companies are booked well in advance. One month notice is likely to secure dates to your plans. Shorter notices will reduce the chances of securing dates to your requirements. Often this is not possible due to completion dates etc. and we would do our very best to accommodate you accordingly.

Why should I have a coordinator to estimate & plan my move?

Our coordinators are experienced, skilled and carry with them a wealth of moving knowledge. An onsite survey/estimate is not only reassuring that we have surveyed contents and location but also an opportunity to discuss your requirements & concerns in detail.

Our coordinator would be able to discuss all the options available to you, routing, packing, crating, shipping times/schedules, insurance, customs formalities (see customs faq) amongst many other logistical solutions.

What services are available to me?

There are many options usually available to you. Your decision could be based on transit time, costing, groupage/consolidation services. Our coordinator would be able to provide you costing based on your individual requirements.

Whenever possible, a more direct route is recommended to ensure minimum handling. Every move and budget is different so it is important to discuss your personal relocation with coordinator or supporting office staff.

It is important to consider overall cost of moving e.g. you may choose a long transit time over costing and find yourself living in temporary accommodation awaiting your furniture & other effects!

Is customs information/advice up to date?

Customs rules, regulations and procedures change frequently throughout the world. We exercise all efforts to ensure that the most up to date information is made available to you at time of your shipment through customs websites, agents and other research material. However, it is impossible to guarantee its accuracy based on frequent changes; often rules & regulations change overnight!

All information is researched and provided in good faith. However, it remains the individuals’ responsibility to ensure information is correct and that they have right documentation to facilitate clearance and other services.

Do you provide storage?

We can provide storage at origin and at destination through carefully selected partners. If we are involved in handling your storage consignment through its movements, we offer discounted rates.

Can I pack myself?

Our crew and those of our network are trained, monitored and supervised to provide professional packing services. It is highly recommended for you to take advantage of our expertise.

There are often items our clients wish to pack themselves for which we are able to provide packaging in advance. Indeed an entire shipment can be packed by yourself if you wish to do so noting insurance limitations will apply. We offer Acorn Express Service for clients wishing to pack part or full consignment.

When & how do I pay?

Payments terms are outlined below unless credit terms have been agreed and approved by us.

A booking deposit is required prior to confirming dates. Balance payments are required;

International Moves – Balance is payable upon receipt of invoice after packing has been completed and prior to shipment. Cheque payments require clearance prior to export.

Domestic Moves – Balance payments are required in cash on the morning of relocation.

Who provides delivery services at the other end?

Deliveries will be provided by our own branch offices (where available) and carefully selected partners. All our agents and sub contractors undergo safety & security checks to continue providing the same level of service as at origin.
